Angles

Left hand covers butt of flag at belly button and right hand holds pole at tab or at a position comfortable to create a slight curve to the arm, no straight arms.  Do not sacrifice arm angles for hand position, it is common to have to put right hand down slightly.  The pole should be straight and held close to body.  Keep shoulders down and back.

(*Left Shoulder requires opposite hand /arm positions)

From SA, keep left hand covering the butt at belly button and pull flag to the right to a 45° angle.  To secure present, flex your bicep and curl it towards the pole.  If hand was not at tab for SA, it can now slide to tab.

From SA, pull right arm down and push left arm up to bring flag parallel to ground.  Flag should be about collar bone height, silk to right side.  Hands are still at butt and tab with the arms making a “W”, your body centering between.

From SA, pull right hand down to hip and left hand up to the left shoulder.  Tip of flag will be pointing down to ground at a 45° angle, but not resting on it.  Keep left elbow down and left palm facing to the front.

Just like a right lance, but down at waist level.  From SA, pull right arm down and push left arm over to the left to bring flag parallel to ground.  Flag should be at hip bone height, silk to right side.  Hands are still at butt and tab with your body centering between.

From SA, push flag out in front to a 45° angle, keeping left hand at belly button, and pushing right arm out to be parallel to ground.  The right hand will need to slide down the pole a little.  Be sure to keep shoulders down and back as not to hunch forward.

From SA, push flag down in front while bringing left hand up to the left shoulder.  Flag should point straight ahead and parallel to the ground.  The right hand will be at tab directly in front of the left shoulder.  Keep left elbow down and the palm facing your left.  Do not twist the upper body to the left, pull the right shoulder as far back as you can.

From SA, go through the front lance position but continue flag tip down at a 45° degree angle.  Left hand will still cover the butt of the flag with palm facing left, but will be by the head above the shoulder.  Again, do not twist the upper body to the left, pull the right shoulder as far back as you can.

Just like a front lance, but down at hip level.  From SA, push the right hand down in front while bringing left hand down and behind on your side.  Flag should point straight ahead and parallel to the ground, with your body center of the bare pole.  You will probably have to pull up on the butt to get the pole level.  Do not twist the upper body to the left, pull the right shoulder as far back as you can.

From SA, push flag to left to a 45° angle keeping left hand at belly button, and sliding the right hand down the pole to create the 45° angle.  Keep the shoulders down and back; it is not the most comfortable position.

From SA, let go of butt with left hand, and while pushing the flag flat to the left with right hand, slide left hand up the pole.  Flag should be parallel to the ground at collar bone height and arms should be right over left making a box.

From SA, release left hand, and push flag down to left side, tucking flag under the right arm.  Left hand will “catch”/hold flag by tab.  This is also a hip shoulder angle creating a 45° angle, flag pointing to ground but not resting on it.

Not like a left lance.  Holding the flag at hip level, silk left, hold the tab in the right hand and the tip in the left.  Pole is parallel to the ground and body is center of the flag sleeve.  This position does not usually come after SA, but rather from a sweeping movement or pulled through from LS as in the angle drill.

From SA, push left hand out in front to form a 45° angle back.  Left arm should be parallel to ground.  Keep your right hand exactly where it was, it serves as a pivot.

From SA, pull flag down bringing right hand to the right shoulder, flag pointing straight back and parallel to the ground.  Left hand will probably need to slide up a little from the butt, but keep the hand connected to the pole with the first finger, not a grip.  Do not twist the upper body to the right, pull the left shoulder as far back as you can.

From SA, go through the back lance position, but continue flag tip down at a 45° degree angle.  Left hand will still cover the butt of the flag and the left arm should make a box, with the forearm parallel to the ground at chin level.  The body will be center of the bare pole.  Again, do not twist the upper body to the right, pull the left shoulder as far back as you can.

Just like a back lance, but down at waist level.  From SA, pull flag down on the right side to hip level, flag pointing straight back and parallel to the ground.  Keep hands at the butt and tab, but you will probably have to pull up, bend your back arm, to level the pole.  Again, do not twist the upper body to the right, pull the left shoulder as far back as you can.
